2015 AIA Sulman Medal Winner

The Westmead Millennium Institute (WMI) is situated in the Westmead Hospital Precinct and contains eight levels of laboratories, scientific support facilities and high quality office space which will accommodate up to 600 researchers and scientists engaged in advanced medical research.

WMI is closely aligned to the University of Sydney and is one of the largest medical research institutes in Australia. They conduct research into a wide range of medical disorders affecting both adults and children. Their research spans infectious and immune diseases, cancer and leukemia, liver and metabolic diseases, eye and brain related disorders and heart and respiratory disorders.

The project featured design for stringent vibration requirements, complex building services, specialist laboratory areas and high quality architectural finishes that required structural engineering solutions that were sympathetic to the end use research environment.
