Multipurpose facility delivers on environmental sustainability and combines aesthetics with functionality

The design brief for this new addition to the Wesley College campus required a focus on aesthetics with functionality, as well as environmental sustainability.
Situated on the edge of the outdoor playing field, the Coates Pavilion incorporates changing rooms at the lowest level, with a function room on the upper level. Its upgrade involved modifications and strengthening of the existing structure to deliver an impressive building of ultra-modern design that showcases durable timber elements.
The new multipurpose Sports Complex was designed with a 'wow' factor in mind. Incorporating long span roof structures to link existing facilities, its architectural steelwork was carefully developed to provide an elegant internal aesthetic. The building comprises changing rooms at ground level with sports hall above, offering two netball/basketball courts, six badminton courts, three practice and one match volleyball courts, as well as weight conditioning room, equipment storage, staff offices, first aid ward, and treatment wing. The environmental features include a natural ventilation system.
These structures provide impressive additions to Wesley College" sporting precinct" increasing the capacity of the school's facilities, and complementing its surrounds.
