One of the first major shopping centres to be constructed in post tensioned concrete

TTW have been responsible for the structural and civil design of the centre since 1966. At that time, Bankstown Square was the largest shopping centre in Australia. Since the original works, 8 major extensions have been constructed to create the 86,000m2 shopping hub for the Bankstown area. The centre was one of the first major shopping centres to be constructed in post tensioned concrete and modular precast construction.

The civil design has been one of the most challenging aspects. Where the centre has been designed to allow a major overland flood path to run through the centre of the site and major road adjustments have been made to allow the traffic to exit and enter off the main trunk road.
