An impressive 8 metre high frame-less glazed frontage

TTW provided the structural, civil and façade engineering to make the Architectural vision for the Gate 9 Redevelopment Project at UNSW, by LahzNimmo Architects, a reality.

Clancy Auditorium was designed in the 1960's as a statement building, with a strong sculptural form. With the expansion of the university in the following years, the Clancy building became overshadowed. The refurbishment features three new canopies, one to the east, west and north of the existing building. The Northern Canopy is the centrepiece, which creates a sense of grandeur to the Gate 9 entrance of the university. Featuring an impressive 8 metre high frame-less glazed frontage, it is a credit to engineering ingenuity.

The 23metre wide steel portal frame allows for an expansive entrance to the auditorium which is home to the universities graduation ceremonies. The scale of the canopy, along with the full height glass façade, allows for natural light to enter into the previously dark space.

With the imminent arrival of the High Street light rail stop, the refurbishment to the Sir John Clancy Auditorium pays homage to the old and the new. It is a strong focal point for the main entrance to the university and creates an impressive backdrop for graduation celebrations.
