One of Sydney's most vibrant community spaces with a focus on retaining a village look and feel.

TTW provided structural, civil and traffic services for the Canopy in Lane Cove, funded by Lane Cove Council. This project replaced an existing at grade car park with a new village green, playground, restaurant precinct, Coles and Aldi supermarkets, and a 500 space underground car park.

The project was undertaken in the town centre of Lane Cove, which involved careful consideration of access around the site during construction and review of offset temporary parking on site.

A new roundabout was designed and constructed to cater for the entry and exit of the car park which used license plate recognition technology to reduce queuing requirements. As the carpark entry is located at a low point within the catchment, TTW conducted an overland flow study to ensure no ingress of stormwater into the basement car park. Existing Council stormwater infrastructure was required to be diverted around the site and design of on site stormwater detention and water quality treatment measures were integrated within the building footprint.

The Canopy received a Commendation and was a runner-up in the category of Best Planning Ideas - Small Project at the 2020 Planning Institute of Australia Awards for Planning Excellence. The New South Wales Awards for Planning Excellence recognise and acknowledge quality, innovation and excellence in Planning.
