Significant upgrades and enhanced capacity for a hospital that has responded to the health needs of the community for over 100 years

The redevelopment project for St Vincent's Private Hospital Sydney involves construction within a live hospital environment bounded by buildings on all four sides of the site. The team is working within these constraints to deliver a new 15-storey Clinical building, vertical extension of the existing 1970's hospital for a new CSSD and full refurbishment of the existing hospital. The clinical building will incorporate expanded inpatient units, two new operating theatres, new ambulatory care services, new rehabilitation service with hydrotherapy pool, redeveloped staff cafeteria, and additional doctors' suites.

Addressing the site congestion required construction over operational buildings with column transfers allowing the airspace of the existing buildings to be utilised. This high-quality project uses smart engineering solutions to maximise hospital floor area, including cantilevered modular fire stairs, new steel lift shafts through the existing operational hospital, and modular steel bathroom pods suspended off the side of the existing building.
