A significant investment of over $50 million, to enhance the services provided and meet the needs of the community over the coming years
This project required the design and construction of a new 4-storey hospital building over an existing ground floor podium and basement parking slabs - neither of which had been designed for future loads. TTW provided a solution that involved the creation of new piled foundations, and replacement of existing basement to ground floor columns.Construction constraints included the restricted head height in the basement carpark for piling rig access, and the requirement not to impede or reduce the number of operational parking spaces. Works also necessitated careful staging in order to allow the existing hospital to remain fully functional during the construction process.
To address the above challenges, the existing post tensioned ground floor slab was propped, and local zones were demolished to provide access for a piling rig from the ground slab. The existing column and pile cap were demolished and new piles, pile caps, and columns were installed. New lift and shear walls were installed using a similar process. Detailed design analysis was required to ensure new column loads and footing settlement did not impact the existing structure.
Following the early works package, construction of levels 1-4 used conventional banded slab design and a lightweight steel frame roof structure.
