TTW provided structural and civil engineering design services for a large expansion of the Melbourne Markets site in Epping.
TTW designed four new specialty cold storage warehouses, large ~50m clear spans were utilised to maximise the flexibility of the internal floor areas.
The soil conditions were highly reactive, with careful detailing of footings and cut off walls to ensure shrink/swell movements are manageable and do not affect the long term operation of the facility. A multilevel commercial office centre is positioned to service the new warehouse tenancies. This is conceived as an efficient mass timber structure to meet sustainability targets.
Our civil engineers carefully considered site levels to both tie in with the existing network, and to minimise rock excavation on this shallow rock site. The site was also fairly steep presenting some challenges that the civil team was able to address optimally for cost and functional performance by careful consideration of multiple design options and iterations
