The project's biggest design challenge was the construction of an atrium connecting all 7 levels within the core of the building

The refurbishment of Macquarie Group's workplace at No.1 Martin Place involved cutting through concrete floors to connect Levels 1-7 within a seven-storey atrium in the core of the building. Construction of this dynamic feature took place within a fully occupied building, and in close proximity to a shared common wall with the Westin Hotel.

Attention to construction staging, vibration testing and monitoring, were crucial to the successful outcome - delivering a vibrant collaboration and innovation hub, centred around a jagged, Escher-like staircase in radiant purple. The stairway's backdrop combines a range of industrial materials - including raw concrete, cement sheeting, various timbers, and exposed ceilings and services.
