The third stage of a major redevelopment to the regional hospital
Stage 3 of the Lismore Hospital comprises a major redevelopment of the clinical services blocks as well as community health facilities for the major regional hospital. Due to a constrained and steeply sloping site, the works were staged with the critical Accident and Emergency and imaging areas constructed initially, following decanting of some existing services. In designing the new redevelopment for Lismore Base Hospital, particular attention was needed to be given to the area's high storm risk. TTW's design was required to address post-disaster loading in a sub- cyclonic area over multiple project phases. In some instances, wind loads were over 7kPa in magnitude - leading to challenges with lateral stability and cladding design.
All the floors in the 10 storeys new building were modelled for a high level of vibration response to ensure that sensitive equipment could function properly.
Likewise, our engineers produced sensible economic design solutions to minimise the impact of wind and worked closely with subcontractors to ensure appropriate material selections. All of the floors in the 10 storeys new building were modelled for a high level of vibration response to ensure that sensitive equipment could function properly. The central stability core used AFS due to limitations in local formwork trade in the region - this is possibly now the largest building in NSW to use AFS for its stability core.
