Tower to rise above a modernist office building originally designed by Yuncken Freeman

Located at 407 King Street opposite the Flagstaff Garden, Iglu Flagstaff is a 17 level student accommodation providing 362 beds. The development incorporates the heritage-listed Flagstaff House which will form the base to a new 16-storey tower.

Due to the size of the site and the close proximity to Melbourne Road and King Street, the project's challenges encompass design, construction and heritage concerns within an area of high activity.

Innovative engineering, in conjunction with advanced analysis techniques, were employed to retain the heritage structure seamlessly integrating it into the new building. The tower has been set back from the heritage building and symmetrically positioned above it.

The floors within the existing building (Lower Ground - Level 2) are connected by an atrium and open stair, and accommodate a range of communal and recreation facilities.

TTW is working in close collaboration with Bates Smart and Kane Constructions to deliver optimal outcomes for this complex project.
