Three-tower residential complex with innovative façade elements, focuses on sustainability

TTW has been commissioned to provide Structural and Façade engineering services to Darling Square South East - a residential complex that is part of the extensive Darling Square redevelopment in Sydney. This component will consist of three towers ranging in height from 9 to 30 storeys, resting on a shared 5-storey podium.

The buildings consist of a slender core and coupled outriggers for stiffness. The foundations also needed to be integrated with a heritage dam that runs across the site. Designed to interact with surrounding neighbourhoods, the retail edges of the complex are designed to flow and interact with its surrounding urban environment.

Situated on the southern edge of the podium, the tallest of the 3 towers will stand at 100 metres high, and is designed to maximise its northern frontage. The façade of the smaller building includes bronze anodized perforated operable screens, exposed white slab edges to Level 8, and a performance glazed window wall system. The third of the towers features a stained precast concrete cladding system, with an integrated brise soleil shading system on its balconies.

The complex will offer around 390 apartments, swimming pool, above ground multi-level car park (277 cars) and retail space. Sustainability is a key focus for the project with initiatives designed to achieve a minimum 4-star Green Star rating on completion.

TTW were also commissioned to work on the Darling Square North East residential block.
