Canberra's new grade separated pedestrian and cyclist crossing

Canberra's separated pedestrian and cyclist crossing, Bowen Place Crossing, is a prominent piece of infrastructure for the nation's capital. The design brief took into account the heritage aspects of the area and delivering a structure that would flow and enhance, rather than detract, from the natural surroundings.

This new pedestrian and cyclist underpass provides users a safer and more comfortable route to complete the popular Lake Burley Griffin basin loop in Canberra.

Combining style and functionality, the underpass includes two new bridges and a 300m path from Kings Avenue Bridge to the existing path network alongside Lake Burley Griffin. The project demonstrates the latest structural and construction techniques and incorporates a unique flow and combination of finishes; precast concrete, off-form concrete, exposed aggregate paths, and profiled steel wall.

The finished project showcases award-winning design quality and creativity; reflecting and complementing its environment and becoming an important component of a precinct that contains such features as: The National Gallery of Australia and Kings Avenue Bridge.
