The redevelopment will deliver a range of improved and expanded infrastructure and services to the growing Wyong community and surrounding areas

A major new extension to the Wyong Campus required a new site masterplan, looking at options for substantial new car parking, new clinical / ward buildings and services upgrades. Investigations were required into various site locations and road networks. Considerations include the distance of travel due to the spread-out site, mine subsidence requirements and transport interactions.

A revised location of the main works has now been adopted, to minimise the impact of construction on the hospital functions, and will deliver:

  • a new and expanded Emergency Department
  • a new and expanded Medical Imaging Department
  • a new and expanded Intensive Care Unit
  • a new Psychiatric Emergency Care Centre
  • a new Paediatric Unit
  • a new and expanded Medical Assessment Unit
  • additional inpatient beds with future expansion space

In addition to concept design services, our TTW Traffic team undertook a fully independent audit of the proposed design and other road-related interfaces. The audit resulted in design amendments such as line marking and signage changes to improve pedestrian safety and vehicle movements.

The current building has been also designed to accommodate an additional 3 levels of structure in the future. Key issues addressed were mine subsidence, a significant increase in car parking, transport interactions and modification of the design to NCC 2019 requirements.

With a finalised selection of a site on the western side of the current facility that minimised the impact on current functions and cost. TTW has now completed the design for a new building with a link bridge to the previous 2004 extension.

TTW provided structural/civil engineer for the major 2004 extensions and upgrade and designed the early works/car parking.
