Grainne joined TTW in January 2020 as Chief Operating Officer responsible for legal, ICT, marketing and communications, HR and other business support services. Her prior experience in similar roles as COO and Executive Director in charge of Business Support services is a great foundation on which to build TTW’s systems and processes in readiness for growth. Dual qualified as an engineer and solicitor with over 25 years of experience working in construction and development for consulting engineers, contractors and law firms across the UK, Ireland, Spain and the Middle East, she is well placed to bring a fresh perspective whilst working with the Board to deliver TTW’s strategic vision.

Tell us a bit about you:

Originally from Ireland, I spent my early career as an electrical design engineer working on projects such as Kuwait Naval Base, the Barcelona Olympics and Saudi Aramco’s refineries in Ju’Aymah, Abu Ali and Ras Tanura later specialising in pharmaceutical construction. In 2005, I started working as a solicitor having studied law whilst working as an engineer. In law, as in engineering, my focus was on property and development. I moved to Australia in 2012 to take up a role back in engineering but this time working in management, responsible for the corporate services side of the business. Since then, I have continued in the COO type roles where my priority is my passion for people and their importance within the business. I love learning and want to create an environment where people can thrive by being supported in their development and given the chance to work on interesting and exciting projects, whatever their role. My love of learning led me to undertake an MBA at UNSW which I completed in 2018. I am also a Director at St Augustine’s College, Brookvale where my experience in construction has proved valuable through a time where the college has been undertaking major building works.

What is the best thing about being a COO?

My role is wide and varied and no two days are the same. I am constantly being challenged by new problems (e.g. latest COVID crisis – or a major office move) which keeps things interesting. I have the opportunity to help people, making the workplace a better environment to be in with a position that allows me to influence the direction of the business not just strategically but also internally which leads to better engagement of staff and ultimately a better service to our clients.

Tell us about your future plans for TTW:

TTW’s current state is a solid foundation for future growth: the best engineers, great clients, excellent projects. My plan is to facilitate growth by ensuring these foundations are scalable whilst TTW maintains a personal approach to client care and its staff.
