Four Points Sheraton Hotel
Sydney CBD, NSW
The Four Points Sheraton project at 161 Sussex Street encompassed refurbishment of the existing hotel; construction of a new 27-level combined hotel and commercial tower; a new two-level convention centre with saw-tooth feature roof; and architectural and structural features such as Wharf Lane bridge, Wheat Road scissor stair, and new hotel porte cochere.
Working in close coordination with RMS, the development was designed and staged to cause minimal impact to the operation of major roads and traffic (particularly the Western Distributor above), while ensuring the paramount safety of workers and public. Further constraints included the ongoing operation of the current hotel during construction. Where possible, precast systems and prefabricated components were incorporated, minimising the amount of on-site works. Intelligent engineering and technical innovation were employed together with close collaboration within the design team – delivering optimal solutions within in a highly-constrained environment.
