Bunjil Place has opened! This exciting new facility is designed as a cultural hub for the Narre Warren area in Melbourne’s east, and its opening weekend was celebrated with two full days of exhibitions and performances for the community.
Centralised from our Melbourne office, TTW’s team contributed structural, civil, traffic, and façade engineering services to bring this striking multi-functional building to life. The intricate design challenges required close collaboration between engineers, FJMT Architects, and contractors – culminating in the delivery of a community facility that encompasses an 800-seat auditorium, art gallery, library, exhibition space, council chambers and offices. Arguably the most significant feature of the structure is the timber gridshell that defines the main atrium, with a 12m high glass façade facing the wide expanse of landscaped plaza beyond.
Among the celebrations and opening events is an exhibition entitled Designing Bunjil Place, which showcases the project development and provides a behind the scenes look at the transformation of this amazing design into reality.
